ABSA Cape Epic

The ABSA Cape Epic is an annual mountain biking event that takes place around the last week of March and the first week of April. The dueling race starts with a prologue, allowing the riders to compete for a good starting point at the main ABSA Cape Epic Race. The ABSA Cape Epic changes it's route every year - so you never know what to expect, except the thrill of pure pedaling adrenaline. The ABSA Cape Epic is revered by amateur and professional mountain bike riders alike.

Team Wilde will be entering into the ABSA Cape Epic 2010, in aid of The JAG Foundation. The JAG Sports and Education Foundation is headed by Elana Meyer and was founded by Greg James, an accomplished sportsman and Managing Director of the Sagitta Group. Since 2007, the JAG Foundation has inspired to build a positive future for South Africa's disadvantaged children and their communities, by encouraging them to participate in sport-related programmes.

Team Wilde will consist of Mr. Kabous Marra (MD of Pacmar) and Alan Dawson, a reputable Western Province cricketer. Alan recently retired from professional cricket with an impressive 184 career wickets under his name.

Alan Dawson played professional cricket for fifteen years and has been mountain biking for the passed two and a half years. He says that after he retired from cricket, he was looking for something to do. Colin Anderson and Malcolm Charles suggested that he should join them on a ride through the Tokai Forest - and then, the bug bit. Alan says that cycling allows him to keep fit, to see places in and around Cape Town and the rest of the country that one wouldn't normally see, and to meet interesting people.

"I guess it is a race that all mountain bikers want to do , but very few get the opportunity. I have been incredibly fortunate to have been asked by Kabous Marra of Team Wilde to partner him. It is an event that I have thought about, but never had the opportunity to do. So when Kabous approached me, I had no hesitation in accepting." - Alan Dawson, member of Team Wilde.

Wilde is the proud fruit juice provider of the ABSA Cape Epic 2010, to ensure that the riders enjoy a Wilde Fruit Juice with every meal during the event.

Wilde to the Rescue

Wilde Pressed and Squeezed Fruit Juice, in support of Big Bay's existing and upcoming lifeguards, sponsored fruit juice to lifeguard events held over the weekend of 21 and 22 February 2010.

A training camp, consisting of grueling all-day sessions, was held at Silwerstroom for Club Big Bay's lifeguards. They were drilled from early morning through to the late afternoon, with fitness training, swimming and boarding, followed by reel and craft rescue events - luckily Wilde Fruit Juice was there in their support, with a gazebo offering pressed and squeezed solace in temperatures of 35 degrees!

The young guns, called the Nippers, participated in the Nipper Carnival at Clifton Beach. This is a competition where different lifeguard clubs compete against each other. The Big Bay team did really well, dominating the competition and showing much promise as upcoming lifeguards. They also enjoyed Wilde Fruit Juice under a gazebo.

Good idea
